9888 bet Deuces Wild — The Most Strategic Video Poker Variant
Deuces Wild is the video poker variant where every 2 in the deck can stand in for any other card. This opens up far more ways to build a hand, but the winning requirements move up accordingly. The game is easy to learn, but without the right strategy it is hard to overcome the house edge.
How a Round Works
A round of Deuces Wild starts with placing a bet. The player sets the bet amount, then presses the deal button and receives five cards face-up from a standard 52-card deck. After seeing the five cards, the player decides which to keep and which to discard. The "held" cards stay, and the rest are replaced with new cards from the deck. The five cards remaining after the second deal are the final hand. If that hand matches any row in the pay table, a payout is made.
The key feature of this game is the four 2s — each one acts as a wild. A wild in your hand can substitute for any card of any rank or suit. This greatly increases the chance of building strong hands. Because of the wilds, though, a plain pair or two pair has no place in the pay table — the lowest payout starts at three of a kind.
How Bet Types and Payouts Work
The Deuces Wild pay table differs from standard video poker because the wild cards make lower hands easy to hit, so those hands pay nothing or very little. The table below shows the payout structure based on the standard "full-pay" Deuces Wild pay table.
| Hand Name | Description | Payout (coin multiplier) |
|---|---|---|
| Natural Royal Flush | A-K-Q-J-10 of the same suit, no deuces | 800x (on max bet) |
| Four Deuces | All four 2s together | 200x |
| Wild Royal Flush | Royal flush completed with one or more deuces | 25x |
| Five of a Kind | Four cards of the same rank + one deuce | 15x |
| Straight Flush | Five consecutive cards of the same suit | 9x |
| Four of a Kind | Any four cards of the same rank | 5x |
| Full House | Three of a kind + a pair | 3x |
| Flush | Five cards of the same suit | 2x |
| Straight | Five consecutive cards of mixed suits | 2x |
| Three of a Kind | Three cards of the same rank | 1x |
The numbers in the pay table may vary slightly by platform. Always check the platform's own pay table before playing.
A Simple Way to Understand House Edge
House edge is the percentage advantage the casino gains on average from each bet over the long term. Full-pay Deuces Wild played with correct strategy has a very low house edge — it is known as one of the most favorable variants in the video poker family. However, this advantage is only achievable when the player makes the mathematically correct decision on every hand.
Guessing which cards to hold, or failing to use the deuces properly, quickly raises the house edge. By comparison, "not-full-pay" variants reduce the flush and full house payouts, making the house edge several times higher. That is why reading the pay table carefully before starting is always important.
At 9888 bet, the 9888 Casino section has games with multiple pay table configurations. Each one can be viewed separately, making it easy to compare and choose.
Opening Strategy That Helps New Players
Strategy in Deuces Wild depends mainly on how many deuces you have in your hand. Each situation calls for a different decision. Here are the key rules for new players:
- No deuces: Hold any complete hand (three of a kind or better) in full. If you only have a pair or two pair, look for a four-card straight or flush draw instead.
- One deuce: Hold if you already have four of a kind or better. Otherwise go for a four-card wild royal or straight flush draw.
- Two deuces: Keep the hand if you already have four of a kind or better. Otherwise hold both deuces and replace the other three, aiming for a Wild Royal Flush or Five of a Kind.
- Three deuces: Always hold all three deuces. Unless you already have a Natural Royal or Five of a Kind, keep only the deuces and draw two new cards.
- Four deuces: This hand already pays 200x. Always hold all four deuces — whether you replace the fifth card or not makes little difference.
- Always read the pay table: If the payouts for a flush, full house, or straight flush differ, your decisions should change accordingly. Never hold cards by guesswork.
Count the deuces first
As soon as you receive your hand, count how many 2s are in it. The entire strategy shifts based on that number. Zero, one, two, three, or four — each has its own decision path.
Use a strategy chart
Free Deuces Wild strategy charts are available online. New players who keep one handy while practicing will learn to make the right decisions faster.
Live Dealer vs Digital Variant
Deuces Wild is primarily a video poker format — meaning it runs on a computer-controlled random number generator (RNG). In the digital version, each hand is dealt independently, the pace is entirely in the player's hands, and the interface is simple and intuitive.
The live casino section also has video poker tables with professional dealers in front of a live camera. These create a more realistic atmosphere, though the pace is generally slower. For new players, the digital version is the best place to learn, since you can think at your own pace before pressing the hold button.
For players who prefer mobile, both formats are optimized on the 9888 App. Cards are clearly visible on a small screen and the hold buttons are easy to tap.
About Table Limits and Betting Range
Minimum Bet
Most Deuces Wild tables keep the minimum bet quite low, so new players can start without taking on much risk. Low bets let you practice for longer sessions.
Medium and High Limits
Medium and high-limit tables are available for experienced players. The maximum bet depends on the platform and the specific game variant. Higher bets also bring larger max-bet bonus payouts.
Max Bet Coins
In Deuces Wild, the Natural Royal Flush payout goes up to 800x when playing the maximum five coins. Playing fewer coins lowers the payout rate, so betting max coins is strategically advantageous when possible.
